I like the idea of living in the downtown area of Jersey City, but not so sure that I want to live right on the water. I am trying to decide whether or not 1st Street in Jersey City is a decent area.
I searched NJ for apartments on 1st Street in Jersey City, and found two of them listed. The first one was The One Jersey City at 110 1st Street, Jersey City. It looks like a newer building or at least a renovated version of an older building. Looking at the website, it seems like a nice place. It has plenty of space, and the list of amenities is pretty impressive. However, I looked at some of the reviews on Facebook, and am a bit concerned. On Facebook, most of the 5-star reviews don’t have any comments. The lower rated reviews have comments, and I see the apartment has responded to some of them asking for feedback. Someone told me recently not to put much value on the higher rated reviews, because it is probably a staff member that made the review just to make the apartment look good. Is that true? Do people really do that?
The second apartment I found on 1st Street in Jersey City, was called The Art House, and it is located at 148 1st Street. I tried to reach their website, but apparently it is down. I went to Facebook, and there are only 11 reviews, 9 of them are 5-star, but none of them give an actual review of the building. I looked at the reviews on Yelp, and they seem to be a mix of positive and negative. I am sure that is the case in most places. I did like the fact that the business manager seems to be monitoring the reviews and handling things quickly. I looked up the address on Google Maps, and it looks like the building wasn’t finished yet. The picture on Google maps is from 2013. I wish the website was up!
My concern with living in the area is all of the construction. I think it would be difficult to get to and from the place in a timely manner. The noise during the day wouldn’t bother me, as I would be at work. I am sure construction stops at a decent hour, so sleeping shouldn’t be an issue.
